Our Solar Journey - The Westlakes
In 2019, we embarked on major renovations for our 200m², 29-year-old home. Our house, equipped with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, two heat pumps, and extensive garaging, needed a significant overhaul. At that time, we considered installing solar panels but the cost seemed too high, especially after investing heavily in making our home healthy and efficient.
Fast forward five years, and we found ourselves reassessing our situation as we approached retirement at the end of 2024. Our annual electricity bills had risen to approximately $3,600. To our surprise, the cost of solar panels had dropped by over 50% since 2019. Seizing this opportunity, we installed 18 panels in November 2023.
The results were immediate and impressive. It’s April 2024 and we have not paid for power since the installation and have even remained in financial credit with our power supplier. The convenience of not having to time our laundry, dishes, or heating usage has been a game-changer.
